The silliness of having someone like lake tell me I should be fired if I were a teacher then in a truly ditzy way act confounded that this would make me angry.

Good Lord. What a bunch of buttholes this board has.

There was a time not that long ago that I didn't understand why the black community was so hypersensitive to issues involving the police. It's a real hot button here.

I'll never pretend to know what it is to be black, nor do I condone some of the black community's responses, but given history and the way it consistently repeats itself for the black community, I think I kind of understand the basis of the anger.

After the same shit repeatedly gets thrown at you over and over and over, there comes a time when you say "enough."

To have someone politely tell me I'm "unfit" and expect me to sit back quietly because they told me so with a smile on their face backed with some wacko moral conviction doesn't cut it.

These freaks who somehow think they've got some chokehold on morality and the meaning of Christianity need a reality check. They are some of the most immoral and unChristian people I've ever met.

GL - you respond to reason so you are in a sense just as culpable as he is in the arguments between you two. Your ignore feature doesn't seem to be working.

All the rest of you need to take a look in the mirror and ask yourself why you have such a fucking aversion to gay or lesbian people.

For the record, I don't see reason as militant. I see him as standing up for himself in asking to be treated just like everyone esle. Were is not for the the Lake's of the world, his fight would be a bit easier. MHO

As far as you and YOUR opinions go...while I do not agree with them (re: allowing a gay person to teach your children), I don't find terribly much (YET [img]wink.gif[/img] ) offensive in anything you have posted.

I will address this:

My children will be exposed to gay people from the get go. Family members, friends, the gay guy on the street. I will answer any and every question they pose on the matter in the most age appropriate manner needed. (And for Lilli..."age appropriate" is more "mentality" appropriate. I could probably explain things to her more graphically that I could most college students, and she'd accept it, and go on abvout her daily business. And in no way would I worry that I had just influenced her to be gay!)

I will qualify my statements, and viewpoint thusly:

NO one, gay or straight, has a right to impose their viewpoints or preferences on any one else, whether in a social situation, an educational situation, political arena...where ever. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. (meaning, opinions on the matter are fine...but in an educational scenerio, I would never accept a straight person, male or female, telling my children, this is "right", nor would I appreciate a gay teacher saying to a student...you should try it...Kids will make up their own minds...and many will know it, or at least suspect it about themselves, early on.)

And I will go on record as saying this, too. In some ways, I can understand reason's "whiny" attitude about the treatment of gays. He has made this point over and over, and it seems to fly right past so many people.

Steve does NOT go out and advertise to people that he is a gay man. BUT, some people will pick up on it, whether professionally or socially, and THEY are the ones who seem to make it the issue, and then project their problems with it onto him...as if HE is the cause of their closedmindedness. (just my suspicion)

I jumped into this because of the outright condemnation of single mothers, and their ability to provide a good role model for young people in general.

You're worried about TAHT being in the class room, yet what about the teahcer who IS a child molester, card carrying member of the man/boy love club (or what ever it's called), or hte teacher who has a stash of porn magazines in their bottom desk drawer.

Okay...so a woman's pregnancy is obvious, not exactly something you can hide. I still maintain that she's not up there telling th ekids...You know, I had a great time getting pregnant. Must have screwed six different guys...heck...I'm not even sure who the daddy is. No, my guess is, she'd be more likely to address the consequences...the agony (at times) of pregnancy, the fear she has of labor, hwo's going to be wiht her, who's going to help her when she needs it, child care, etc, etc...

I understand the sentiment, jumper. I understand - and have understood - that I would probably sway more minds with a softer approach.

But let me tell you something, jumper. Some people need a swift kick in the ass.

Imagine someone telling you you're unfit to teach, or raise a child, or have contact with children because you're divorced. Imagine them telling you you're unfit because of your height, or the color of your hair.

Then imagine them actually acting on it, working to have you fired from your job.

Just because Sean and Lake are polite about it doesn't mean they deserve a polite response. On the contrary, they need to be taken out of their comfort zone, slapped across the face and shown the Big World Out There.

People like this threaten my means of supporting myself. They threaten the means of supporting the basics in life.

OK jumper let's bring someone to the board who has a snotty comment to EVERY post you make. Let's have someone come on here who calls you gay, makes fun of your home, calls you stupid, etc etc. I could have just banned him when I was still a moderator. But I told myself, no others do like him so I'll just leave. I did. I decided to come back. I answered some of his attacks (and I find it amusing that no one seemed put out by HIS remarks to me it was only when I answered him that somehow it became an issue). And finally I put him on "ignore". I can still see he has made remarks after me all the time. Most of them I never even look at. But if I look at the board without being logged on I do see his comments. He doesn't like anti-gay remarks? Yet he felt it was OK to call me "queer", make fun of me for having an interest in a nice yard and nice flowers? saying I "swish" when I walk? saying I talk with a "lisp"? How homophobic is that? Can you answer that? What it's OK for him to say such things because he is gay? Then it's OK for African Americans to call one another "nigger" too then huh? Reason is an asshole. Not becasue he's gay, but because of how he projects himself and thinks his own shit doesn't stink. Based on his comments if he weren't gay himself he would be the most anti-gay person on the planet. I think he is anyway, he drips with self-loathing as much as Nate does.

I never said anywhere YOU were abnormal or that you were you were unfit to teach kids.

You questioned if gay people were unfit for certain jobs. I am gay.

You said you didn't want a gay person teaching your junior high child. I am gay.

It's a simple algebraic equation.

actually...I was jsut about to post something...and for this...maybe I just WON't...nah. Cause I seem to be missing soem things, too...so anyway.

I was just thinking...in defense of Sean Pa...(and granted I am only on page four of a good thorouhg reading of this thread)...it seems to me, that while Sean states that he would be uncomfortable with a gay man teaching his children, he also openly states that this is his OPINION, does not say it is necessarliy RIGHT, and in fact...if I understand correctly, is willing to listen to why perhaps it's "misguided" if you will. In other words...I actually see SEAN as about the most reasonable perosn around here, basically saying...I may be wrong...explain to me why, and I just might be willing to reconsider things from another point of view...{editors note: this originally was typed "pint of view"....not to be stereotypical or anything...JOKE!!!!!)

Sean, correct me if I'm wrong, but I really do get the feeling that you are trying to be open minded, but you do hold tight to your beliefs and opinions, just like the rest of us...
